Probably 'cos you slip them on! (Well ones without backs anyway)!

Cos she used the username rubyrose but that was too twee but it fitted well with the rubyslippers thing from the Wizard of Oz therefore i started to refer to her as rubyslippers, but being lazy i just ended up calling her slippers.

Yes, somebody does know. Smudge was exactly right...it is because of the ease with which one can 'slip' them on.
