What is the meaning and even correct saying regarding buying a 'pig and a poe' I last heard it about 10 years ago.

A "poke" was a small canvas sack which a farmer would use to transport his pig to market and you were advised not to buy the pig unseen in the "poke". This was because an unscrupulous farmer would really be selling you a cat and not a pig. If someone untied the bag, accidentally or on purpose, they would give the secret away and would have "let the cat out of the bag". How's that - two answers for the price of one!
