Did your mother threaten bad behaviour with removal to a certain place?! For my mum it was 'you are going to Humbie', which I knew must be an idle threat since the name was so stupid. Then, in mid-teens I went camping with a friend (who had also received the same promise) and we came across the nearby village of HUMBIE!! (a children's home village - something like Quarriers - on disconcertingly recognising that the threats weren't idle we didn't stick around to find out much more!)

My mum's main threat was just 'wait till your father gets home' - that normally did the trick. Although Dad never hit us (as he'd knock us into the middle of next week if he had), I used to be more scared of letting him down - pretty good parenting actually. :) Although I did get told on some occasions that naughty children were sent to the cupboard under the stairs!
My parents were far, far meaner than that - Dad once took the head off my teddy in response to a particularly wicked misdemeanour. I have grown up all bitter and twisted as a result.
anyone get the silent treatment?
No bluedolphin - something more terrifying than that, I had the "Look". That was enough to freeze the blood!
We were threatened with being sent to a childrens home - which wasn't such a threat as it sounded as if children got a good deal there. I recall being very jealous of the children in those homes where they got christmas presents and new clothes as a matter of course.
