"'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all." Alfred Lord Tennyson in his poem 'In Memoriam'.
Someone who never had loved and lost!
For interest, full title is "In Memoriam AHH". Written in 1849, it's a series of one hundred and thirty-one short meditations, written in memory of Arthur Hallam, a close friend who had been engaged to Tennyson's sister. How sad.
