If you could, or have, named a house what reason would you give for the name you have chosen. They say it is unlucky to re-name a house, so I have never been able to chose my own house name (most have only had numbers!). What's the strangest house name you have come across?
Something that reflects the local environment ie Woodside, riverside, seaview, gas works view..... well maybe not.
Or something to do with the history of the house, like Keepers cottage, The old rectory etc.
Cant really think of any strange names, apart from sur names spelt backwards but I bet postmen know a few.
A friend of mine bought a near derelict house that had been occupied for years by an elderly eccentric called Mabel. Everyone locally always referred to it as Mabels Cottage so my friend officially called it that.
The worst house name I've ever seen - it makes me want to barf when I think about it - is Osocosi Cottage.
my brother in law simon straw married his wife previously called nicki fields so they named there house strawfields, so how about using your surname??? or my crazy uncle calls his house "the house of laughing bamboo"
We've called our bungalow Doce Mar which very losely translated means sweet sea, as we live on the seafront we thought it was a good name, but also my husband calls me a dossy mare (he loves me really) so it has a double meaning.
