The pronounciation, Americans ay it one way, us t'other, same for Tomato.
You may hear 'vase' pronounced vaze, vaaz or vawz in British English. The last of the three is rare now, but you might still catch a posh old lady saying it!
And a not-so-posh native of Plymouth. My mother in law who is now 94, always pronounced the word vawz .. in the days when she spoke at all!
