how can i type using the greek alphabet in MS WORD?

You need to add the Greek language option to the regional options section of control panel. Depending upon which OS you use there will be an option to add further input languages. If you add Greek and then use the keyboard shortcut to switch languages you should find you can type in Greek within MS Office apps.

Not exactly what I expected but works in Word.

You may need to change the setting in View/Encoding to Greek(windows) to see the characters here.

or use the font called Symbol which is available in most copies of word
