corner shop?

Is a 'corner shop' the same as a general store? Meaning a small universal shop in a village? I need it to be in a city, so maybe the meaning is different?

No a corner shop is exactly what is says on the tin...a shop on the corner of a junction. They tend to be in towns and are often what you refer to as a general store, small family run businesses. HOpe this helps

Sorry to disagree but a corner shop need not be on the corner, as this definition says (Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary)

"a small shop, especially on a corner of a road, which sells common foods and other objects that are useful in the house."

I always remember corner shops as being a shop that was at the junction of two streets of terraced houses, literally on the corner. They usually sold most things, and opened very early until very late - the shop in 'Open All Hours' is a perfect example of this dying artefact.

1.a grocery shop ususally located on the corner of a street. the owner is usually called Mr Patel and the shop is open 24/7 the shop is open 24/7 because all of the windows are too expensive to replace once they have been smashed by neighbour hood drive bys and townies
the owner usually has a son called jay who has performed work experience in a Texaco garage. only two childern are allowed at any one time although they usually break the door down and raid the shop.
