When you were at school did you like wearing a uniform or did you loathe it? What colour blouse and tie ect did you wear and was your school strict about you wearing it. Ladies did wearing a stiff collar blouse and a tie ever annoy you or did you feel smart wearing it. I never had a problem wearing uniform i liked how we were all the same white shirt black tie red yellow stripe i felt smart. It was haircuts after school at the barbers i hated mum liked tidy hair.
Liked mine.Summer dresses were shirt waisters in grey maroon and white gingham which suited most of us. Winter uniform was grey skirt and white blouse with grey and maroon striped tie. Hat was a cross between a Robin Hood style cap and a baseball cap for both boys and girls.(this was 1960)
I liked wearing uniform because I like repetition, I would have serious issues if I had to keep deciding what to wear on a daily basis. It also helps distinguish your school from random kids
I was neither here nor there about it but what I <i<hated was the knee high socks my mum made me wear during primary school, I always rolled them down to look like anckle socks (ha! how dumb was I) after I left the house.
Ours was ghastly!! When I first went to school you could still choose between a white shirt and mauve striped tie but they fazed them out fairly quickly so you were left with a mauve and white striped shirt with navy blue skirt. You could also choose between navy blue jumper or cardi then they fazed that out to just mauve. You had a disgusting NYLON mauve and white checked summer dress and a mauve blazer topped delightfully with straw boater or black felt hat in winter. Not only did it put me off mauve, it put me off uniforms generally ( on me at least!!) for a very long time. Nowaday when you see how easily you can get childrens' uniforms in superstores etc and how most places stick to the grey and white or navy and white uniforms it must be so much easier for the parents.
