Listening to some of the commentary from the olympic, and the word awesome keep rearing its ugly head, another americanism reaching our shores, and the phrase"At the end of the day"does my head in also, what gets your goat when it comes to the english language????
No words or phrases in particular, but when people end their phrases as if they were a question? With an upward inflection? Even though they're not actually questions? Yah??
Further to your previous comment bathsheba about the upward inflection of words I seem to think it's an Australian thing but I heard it the other night I think maybe Heartbeat which is supposed to be set in the 60's and somebody talking like that and it just sounded so alien to the time.
Can't bear Heartbeat, scotsgal. Only watched it a couple of times, but they were so far out with the "contemporary" music for the time it upset my tidy ordered mind :-( xxx
