Listening to some of the commentary from the olympic, and the word awesome keep rearing its ugly head,another americanism reaching our shores,and the phrase"At the end of the day"does my head in also,what gets your goat when it comes to the english language????

I do not like the word 'pukka' - or however you spell that word Jamie Oliver keeps saying! Drives me mad!

Heres another "pushing the envelope" what the hell???
when people say you done a job for me..... its did a job, did a job!!!!
No words or phrases in particular, but when people end their phrases as if they were a question? With an upward inflection? Even though they're not actually questions? Yah??
"they hope to get a result" - there always will be a result - why can't they say "they hope to win"

can't stand the phrase "Team GB" ....

Football commentators saying things like " the boy done good" I t drives me nuts.
Or, "i hear what you're saying, but....." - that drives me mad x
Further to your previous comment bathsheba about the upward inflection of words I seem to think it's an Australian thing but I heard it the other night I think maybe Heartbeat which is supposed to be set in the 60's and somebody talking like that and it just sounded so alien to the time.
I find the word Uber really annoying and what on earth is 'Get to go' ?Does it mean start or something else?

moonshadow lol,must ask though while i am cross threading where the saying "gets my goat" comes from???
I have started to say 'fab' all the time! I am annoying myself with it but I don't know where I picked it up from!
Can't bear Heartbeat, scotsgal. Only watched it a couple of times, but they were so far out with the "contemporary" music for the time it upset my tidy ordered mind :-( xxx
