The word 'baggage' has been used since as long ago as Shakespeare's time to mean a worthless or immoral woman. In the 1920s, that was shortened to just 'bag' in American slang. It then made its way across the Atlantic, as these things so often do. (The addition of 'old' just makes it even more insulting!)
