what is the meaning of "plowed on" in the following sentence?

The professor told his neurobiology class he was going to use the program which compares a student's term paper with every other research paper on the Web and it is good not to copy from the internet, and still quite a few plagiarizers plowed on.

I think that it's a mispelling of "plough" - it just means that some students carried on plagiarising other peoples work.
The American spelling would be "plowed", though.  And Mike is correct, it means the students simply forged ahead, regardless of the directions they'd received, and carried on the way they were.
