What does 'many a mickle makes a muckle' mean?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.It's Scots dialect, and is usually taken to mean that many a little thing makes a big thing (eg if you save your pennies, they'll grow into pounds). The problem is that in Scots dialect "mickle" and "muckle" both have the same meaning - a lot or much. The proverb should probably be "Many a pickle makes a mickle".
