could anyone tell me what the words mean on the side of a pound coin(stirling) plz. i think its latin?

If you mean DECUS ET TUTAMEN it means "An ornament and a safeguard." It comes from the days when coins were made of gold or silver. Folk would clip off wee bits and melt them down, so to stop this, the wording was added. If the words were missing it showed someone had been a wee bit naughty and had snipped a bit off.
