60 Minute Makeover

Have you seen what the standard of workmanship is like after they have finished. Unpainted skirting boards, paint round the light fittings and power points. The paintwork edging around walls is appaling, badly cut lino around kitchen units the list goes on and Fluffing on. They spend over £15000 on doing a place up (OK they get a lot of it for cut price as they plug the suppliers) but if you spend that amount of money then for gods sake try to do a reasonably compitant job rather than this slap dash rubbish. I ain't no handyman but i could do a better job than these so called professionals. If i was a subject/victim of this lot i would make them do the job properly after the show or sue the backsides of them for criminal damage.
Do you think they make the job good after the cameras have left or the subjects have to spend their own money in making the rooms look presentable?

I'd hope they make the job good but doubt it! I'd be fuming if anyone got that lot to do my house.

I was told by a friend who had a house done near her that it took all day too, not 60 minutes.

i agree, it does seem rather impossible to do 3 rooms is it, in just an hour...?!

and yeah, the shoddiness of their finished work, well, id not be too happy.

oh and some of the colours and the decor! .. strewth!! ... what the..??!!

but, saying that though, a few of the finished makeovers, do look quite nice, especially when theyve used subtle and harmonious shades and furnishings.

ok, some of the 'victims' do seem genuinly 'surprised' when they return home to be greeted by a banner, skip and wokmen, lol,
but, i do wonder how many families have secretly discussed between themselves, as to what colour/style etc to go for, beforehand..?

I would be thoroughly peed off if anyone got that crowd in while I'd gone shopping..... and yes, it can't be a "proper job" in just an hour, no way.

but, as for that lynda barkingmad woman and theres another one too, cant think of her name now,
well, theyre just tooo way out for my liking with their gareish ideas and whatnot.

Did Linda Barker do changing rooms, the budgets were a lot smaller so the potential of turning rooms into pig ears was much greater.

What makes me laugh is when they emulsion paint over the wallpaper, it might look good on camera on the hour but, it looks terrible when it dries out..I tried it once, never again!!!!!

It has been said on many a show that the 60-minutes doesn't include preparing the house in the first place. They also have a break half way through and then show the family around their newly decorated house at the end, so of course the make-over show takes all day to record.

Like Tony says, they clear the 3 rooms, THEN start filming,and the break is at least an hour to let the paint dry. I wouldnt mind having them do mine, but if finished product is as bad as barney15c says, why havent we seen people complain through media?? agree with you trt.

The actual Makeover takes 60 minutes, A guy in my street had it done a few years ago.Trouble now is they seem to be doing EVERY house in Essex up,very rare do they venture North of Watford.

If you do watch the program do have a close look at the rooms, they purposely use long shots so that the finishing isn't so apparent but its not hard to spot, as i said light fittings, skirting boards, painted edges. I think why you might not get many complaints in the press is the fact that each house is getting over £10000 in appliances and furniture ( though probably heavily discounted to the prod company for plugging the company that supplied them), so its reasonable to expect the householder takes it as part of the territory they wont get a craftsman job on the actual decoration but will get loads of nice freebies as a consequence. I can remember there was quite a few complaints when changing rooms was on , some of them quite high profile, in those cases the budget was only a few hundred quid so unless you had a miracle and a good job was done to budget it was almost certain you was going to get a polished turd job. Everything was made from MDF too!

most of the helpers are students keen to get on-set tv experience as a runner or art department...and they are unpaid and unskilled...

The whole point of my question was if you have such a big budget they surely its expected that you do a good job all told, not just a rush job and pretty it up with a few expensive fixtures and fittings.

If i remember correctly there was another of these kinds of shoes (Carol Vorderman may have presented it but im not sure). Admittedly the budgets were much bigger but the standard of workmanship was very much higher. Still we are talking daytime TV and not prime time so maybe people expect less!!!
