What would you do if you won a crossword prize?
35 Answers
Accept the prize gratefully and then what? Would you keep on doing the same crossword every week or not? What are the odds that your luck would be in on another occasion? Or would you assume that even if it was `they` would discard your entry and pick another one because it wouldn`t look good for the same person to win twice? Or would you assume that nobody would notice the same name turning up? (I mean, after all, WHO looks at the names of the winners which is usually in smaller print!) And, lastly, does anyone have any idea about the number of entries for particular crosswords these days?

I won a dictionary on the Saga crossword, last year, I think it was. I still do the crossword and send it in. I also have wondered if the publishers note winners' names, and ensure that they do not win again. but, on the principle of nothing ventured, nothing gained, I still keep trying.

I was lucky enough to win the Guardian Prize crossword (and boy was I chuffed, my dad tried to win the Daily Express crossword for many years without success). Anticipating that you probably could'nt win twice, I entered using my brothers name & address and won yet again, (yes he did keep the prize). Nowadays I don't bother to enter as the prize is awful, having the kudos of winning it before I try and satisfy myself by completing it each week. It would be nice if the number of correct entries was given, if if only now and again!
Without wishing to brag, I've won the Guardian Prize crossword 12 or 13 times over the last fifteen years. I've also won the Observer twice, the Sunday Times twice, the Times once and the Telegraph runners up three times.
So if you win there's no reason to stop if you enjoy it. You can always give the prize away if you already have it. And I don't believe they keep a record of past winners and exclude them if they are drawn out again.

Iwon the DT sat £200 about 4 years ago was gobsmacked when I read it in print. I still send in but havent ever won anything again and have easily spent the same amount on paper & postage. I do the DR £500 but always enter it with a pal in bonny Scotlands name & address only once have I seen a non Scot be the winner, I shall give her half should I win, but I wont hold my breath.
