I think i need a change, ive been in my job 20 years, over the years things have changed but more recently i find myself so totally fed up, i dread waking up and having to go in. Im watching the clock constantly and i really hate it now, its getting me down. As jobs are though do i have a choice? i am not sure i could come across well at an interview and the thought of having to start afresh is very scarey. I am sufferring though, i have stress related syptoms which are definately getting worse and they are very painful. What would you do?

In the current climate I would sit tight personally. There are not a whole lot of other jobs that are out there and the ones that are available are getting a shed load of applications. On days when I think I've had enough, I am just grateful I have a job at the moment, lots of people are struggling more than I am.
there'll be no harm in throwing your CV out to a few recruitment agencies.
Do you know what you'd like to do or is it a case of just not doing what you don't like?
I would be inclined to stay put for now.

A stressful time is never a good time to move - far from curing your stress, it may increas it.

Have a word with your bosses about the issues that trouble you - maybe there is some way things can be altered, but if they don't know, they'll assume everything is OK.
Not good to be stressed out at work - we spend so much time there. However.... as has been said, not a lot of work around just now and maybe having a word in the right ear may solve some of your problems. Bosses may assume everything OK. Good luck whatever you decide.
There's no harm in trying, Busybee. I was scared to try for years; I HATED my job and it affected my whole life. I started my new job six weeks ago, and I'm so happy. It feels as though a weight has been lifted and I don't wake up and feel as though I want to burst into tears anymore. You might not get something better, but you definitely won't if you don't apply for anything. Good luck! :)
