Hello. I have a laptop that was given to me and it was then loaded with XP and has all the original numbers. It is better than my old one. The problem is it has a 30 day thing on it which requires a number to be put in to register it. We have put in the right number for the software but it refuses to recognize it. We have also tried other numbers. We don't know why the correct numbers will not work as they belong to a legitimate copy of XP.
does any one out there have any suggestions as to what the problem may be and how to deal with it. Thank you for your time.

It will say on the sticker exactly what version of windows the license number is for, either professional or home edition and also if it's a retail or OEM version of each. if the version of windows installed doesn't match this the number won't work.
