lucky dip ideas

we are having a family 'do' soon and I want something that I can bring out if the kids get bored, all but one are boys so the football will be in use a lot of the time, there are six kids aged 1-14 so wondered if a lucky dip might be an idea, but what do I put in it, don't want sweets as two of them can be a bit hyper, any ideas please, just little cheap things so they can have two or three 'dips' each.

I agree, you don't need to spend a lot. It is not all junk in our Poundland.

If you're going to the pound shop, get some of their multipack bubbles. Kids love blowing bubbles!

Little water pistols are fun ... musical instruments probably aren't.

On a sensible note, you're going to have to watch the 'place in mouth' issue and make sure nothing is too small for the very young ones.

reading books / colouring pencils & colouring books / face paints / plastic skittles / football / badminton set ..I've seen all these things at the Poundland or 99p stores ; good luck

Plastic tat, pencils & colouring books and bubbles always go down well with the younger ones but I know my 12 year old wouldn't go near a lucky dip (far too grown up for that). Maybe get the older ones something like an x-box magazine so they don't feel left out.

Posted before so apologies if you already know The Parcel Game. Lasts longer than a lucky dip.

Buy and wrap about 18/20 silly things. I always hide £5 in one but not essential.
Kids in circle. 2 packs of cards. Deal out one pack and you hold the other. Start calling cards from yours. Call, say, 6 Hearts. Child holding 6 Hearts takes parcel from centre. Keep going and when parcels in centre run out the kids "steal" from each other and the fun starts. When all your cards are gone each child will have some pressies!

At the risk of sounding like im peeing on your parade, im not honest, but would a 14 be into a lucky dip thingy? Just stick him on the Playstation whilst the t'others are dipping :-)

you will be surprised boo, quite a lot of teenagers would prefer doing something fun outside as part of a group rather than sat slumped in front of a computer game
