Daily Record Crosswords

Does anyone else agree with me that there are too many void crosswords in the Daily Record? The price of stamps is not cheap now and it is all very well giving 2 winners this weekend but we don't get our stamp money back and have to use another stamp this Saturday. Why not just void the answer and give the prize to someone who gets the rest right.

Hi katburd and thanks for the update. I see the DR's tied into a contract with the compiler - I used to wonder why they hadn't found a new compiler months ago. It's encouraging to see there'll be a new compiler in January hooray! :o))

Hi JMR27, I was a bit disappointed I didn't get the chance to say everything I wanted to say to her, when I tried to explain about the clues which could have multiple answers she said "is that not what crosswords are about" No, I said obviously you don't do crosswords, why am I speaking to you if you don't understand, I said just give me the compilers phone number then and I will complain to them direct. (but she refused as they have someone else lined up.

Hi katburd whoever you spoke to doesn't seem to have been very helpful - or very friendly. Thanks again for taking the trouble to find out more.
I don't have Tuesday's paper now but I'm sure there's another telephone number listed on the crossword page. Some time last year I phoned the number and got through to the compilers' secretary who told me they didn't come into the office till eleven! I forgot to phone back - that must have been another day that the paper got lobbed in the bin. lol

JMR27, I agree I felt she wasn't the right person either, and she admitted that too, that's why she said she would put me in touch with the new compiler so that I could explain to him what the problems were, he would understand better, I had about 13 examples of ambiguous clues but it made no sense to her, so we will just have to wait and see, I'll not hold my breath. :)

Hiya Katburd, well at least they are going to void the wrong answer and give a winner which is good for all the people who have toiled over it and posted it. Well done for that and your perseverance, most folk would have given up before now, here's hoping they get a bit better now

Paulsy, I said, don't waste people's time and effort or their stamps, award a winner if the rest of the grid is ok.
I even want the layout changed, I like to get the crossword done and posted then relax with the rest of the puzzles, but they are on the other side of the one I've just cut out. :(

Hi katburd, appreciate the time and effort you've put into this. Agree also that we shouldn't hold our breaths !! Do you think they might give us a box to put our names and addresses on the "big one" on a tuesday as some sort of consolation !!
