I've been staring at this too long now.
As an effort,

Overtaken = gain + back of (drive)R + a B(road)
Kind of low = bargain (cheap or basement) ?

I'm still not convinced.

Hi Danny. seen bargain and lagos suggested.
I cannot parse how bargain fits though.
Question Author
Nor me Shooty
18a seen as bargain
languid would fit and can mean kind of low, but again I cannot parse.
Maybe you can work with this ?
Question Author
Wish I could Shooty. It's driving me mad.

He's around somewhere...
Question Author
Can you parse bargain for us.
Danny, I gave this puzzle a wide berth a long while back, some answers were impossible to parse.
Question Author
Yep, many's the time I've had to guess a solution.
Sorry, Danny - I can't see a parse for either 'bargain' or 'languid', other than the 'A1' (road) being involved...
Question Author
Thanks anyway LIK. As mamyalynne says sometimes it is not possible to parse their solutions.

Its better than any thing I've come up with.I'll go along with that Shooty.Well done.
Overtaken (grab becomes barg) back on (gives n) a road (A1) , kind of low gives bargain. Not sure how the driver fits in though
