Can anyone (Slaney?) resolve a small final ambiguity:
48 Ac could be one of two answers really - one one a mojor figure, one a minor. You could argue both from the wordplay, couldn't you?

You could indeed flocker - I've opted for the minor, as the major figure appears elsewhere.

Thanks, Slaney! Yes, that rather confirms my thinking! This puzzle, which took longer than it should have done, has illustrated the principle of following one's hunches - I was on to the theme much earlier via that universal anagram ( I do have it installed by the way, as a support when Word Wizard is overtaxed by Listeners etc) but rejected it as too obscure!
It was still fun though!
