Went Shopping Today.......

Pulled out of the cul-de-sac and on to the road. Another 100 yards to the main road. (Main for us but still quite minor) 20 yards and heard the siren of a police car. Pulled over, I thought he just wanted to get past. He got out of his car, came over and asked me to do the same. Asked me if I had been drinking. No says I. What about last night he asked, again I replied no. Okay he said, got back in his car and off he went. I really was shaken by this so I went home. No shopping but puzzled.

I think they are just raising awareness. It doesn't seem a bad idea to me, especially if people go home and tell neighbours, friends and family or post it on forums like this

Can't breathalyse without there being a moving traffic offence or suspicion of drink.

Possibly had a tip-off that someone in a car like yours (make, model, colour etc) had just left a local pub to drive home who was in te opinion of the caller over the limit.

By talking to you the PC guessed you were not the one they were looking for.

Just a suggestion as something similar happened to me but was 'let-off' when then noted that the car was 5 persons up and obviously an incorrect 'pull'

I was leaving a small shopping precinct last week when two nice policeman were pointing at random cars and pulling them into the side. Sadly I wasn't one. :-(

last christmas day i pulled out of the texaco at 8pm, i hadn't had a drink all day and i was on the way home, cop in a laybye 50 yards up the road waved us in and asked me if i had had a drink, i said no, he breathalised me anyway and it was 0. i hadn't even got up to 20mph when he waved us in and so i think they were just bored.

All a bit of a mystery Jeza, try not to be thrown by it, although it is very alarming when it happns isn't it? They are just passing the time ever hopeful of a correct "pull" at this time of the year.

Why should we be worried that the police pull people over, especially at this time of year? I'd have no reason to be concerned as you probably didn't Jeza.
Surely the more drunks they remove from the roads the better.

I appreciate that Maidup. But can't really see why. Like Zacs I'm reassured by the police stopping and checking drivers.
I know there will be objections to my attitude but drunks and phone users driving sicken me.

I'll tell you why eccles. I need my car for my Husband. He is very ill. No I did nothing wrong. The police in your area are clearly better than in mine. I hate people who judge without the facts.

Jeza, I don't think anyone's judging, from the responses - most of us seem reasonably glad that the police are out and about, and it sounds as if you were stopped randomly, not that they had reason to think you were guilty. It's happened to me in the past - I can't say it bothered me that much, police just doing their job.
