dunt?
Hi sandyroe I dunted my knee yesterday while gardening, blooming sore too.
DUSH
duff- as in "to duff him up"?
Dunt is a mark left after a blow as in dent
Dush is to strike heavily against as in dash against the rocks.
The answer to 6a is he he so I say dush is the correct answer in this case.
dunt [dʌnt]
n. A heavy, dull-sounding blow or stroke, a knock. The wound caused by such a blow. A dent. A throb, thump, quickened beat of the heart.
v. To beat, strike, thump, bump, knock, so as to produce a dull sound. Of the heart: to throb, to beat rapidly, to palpitate.
pt. pp. duntit

dush [dʌʃ, duʃ, døʃ]
n. A violent blow or stroke, a violent bump or jolt.
v. To push or strike with force.
pt. pp. dusht Pushed, attacked, struck dumb, silenced
Ah if there is a crsser that matches that sorts them.
6a could be te he
Gone for dunt; to strike heavy esp with dull sound to go whit te-he
Chambers dictionary spells tee he but spells he he described as a gleeful giggle.
Urban Dictionary - te he used in place of haha or lol
Chambers: Dush (Scot) vt to strike heavily against; to throw down. The same words of the definition are in the clue.
I give up we'll all find out tomorrow hopefully but I still maintain it is DUSH.
retrocop - I agree that you may well be right.
Has any one got the Mails answer in yesterdays edition for this clue. Was it dush or dunt?Wife has taken yesterdays paper to work with her.
Well as a Scot born and bred I've never used the word "dush" in my life. However, I use "dunt" regularly. Last year I dunted my car on a bollard!
I agree maggiebee,I have never used dush either?
But according to Chambers dictionary it is also a Scottish word meaning "to strike heavily against"I wish to know what the Daily Mail compiler gave the answer in yesterdays edition.
someones going to end up in the duntses corner.
