Cheers Daniel & good morning, A new compiler it seems? At least I don't recall him/her.
Thanks Daniel - nice puzzle, not too strenuous today. Sounds like a new compiler.
Thanks Daniel, as always.

A new compiler for The Spectator I think, Firefly is the name used by Geoff Oxley for his Toughie crosswords in The Daily Telegraph - never tried them though.
Thanks as ever Daniel.

After her recent success I think Romy can't wait to tackle the
latest crossword- hence the early start.

Good luck, Romy (and don't help your Dad too much)!
Thanks as always to Daniel. I think I have it, but I don't see how the title relates to the puzzle. Any ideas out there?
Well, there seems to be a recording of the title by a group with that theme word in its name, but maybe I'm overlooking s'thing more obvious & important (I did wonder myself).....................
I can see plenty of references to the title with the second noun in plural form, but not in the singular form as in the title itself?
Thanks Daniel, hope you got a bit more sleep last night.
Does the title refer to 19d, a subsequent bearer of the name of the writer of the original German couplet?
Almost done but have come to a grinding halt on 7d: Annoyed having tons to hold, ring man in depot (11). I have STO?N?E?PER. STOREKEEPER seems to fit the clue but ASKANCE at 18a is surely correct, so rules it out. No help from Chambers. Where am I going wrong?
7d: STOREKEEPER = man in depot
annoyed = SORE
having tons to hold = put T in the middle of that ^
ring = KEEPER

18a: ASKLENT
Thank you Bibblebub, I should have looked more closely at 18a, however it seems to be a little ambiguous!
