Seedbed
Question Author
I got that but could not see what it has to do with judge or society girl. Can you explain please
I can't see all the wordplay there, penelope. Is the society girl DEB?
I can see SEE (not judge though?) and DEB and D but can't see an anagram indicator.
Or is the Judge DEED (as in TV prog). I'm sure it's not
See - judge
D(ay)
Deb - society girl
Question Author
I think deb plus d for day and see must be judge, but it is not a usual usage for it
Thanks. That's what I thought- but i can't see why we should reverse the DEB
Not a good clue. I can only imagine an indicator for reversal of DEB has been omitted from the clue.
See = judge
D = Day.
Deb = Society girl (reversed).
Maybe the clue should have said ... getting UP for day in...
Or: Judge and 'retiring' society girl getting day in etc. etc.
Judge Dee. ......Chinese stories
+

Deb
+

S......day, Sat or Sun
Possibly (I'd have to Google Judge D) but I still can't see why deb is reversed
However you parse it Seedbed is the correct answer.
How about Dame of the British Empire (DBE) for society girl.
Then it would parse as SeeDBEd.
