I think that luck was on their side - the guy loading the weapon thingy whilst in the loo and the US marines being in hearing distance and able to, correctly, identify the source of the noise.

As you say, Svejk, it could have been a much more serious outcome, with many casualties.

To have taken on a gunman who had an automatic weapon took some courage. Many lives were saved.

Early reports said the servicemen heard the gun being loaded in the toilet but that appears to have been wrong.

What these guys actually did was to run at him. That is incredible bravery. Hundreds of people were saved. I hate to think what would have happened if that AK47 hadn't jammed.

He probably planned to kill as many as he could then drive the train into derailing in a densely populated area.
