I think the answers are:
1d. CONNIE (It's a girls name and it uses letters NI within concession)
12a. BEHOVE (BE is a shortened BAE teaching degree, Hove is an old word for raise or hoist, BEHOVE has a meaning of fitting or apt

Bonnie would still fit but I'm opting for the NI within concession part of it.
