Can someone please explain the "brew" part, apart from the fact that the letters could be ?r?w. The original post gave this answer before, but with a question mark (not sure). I am totally flummoxed!

I thought of Home brew when I first looked at the crossword,
ThiS TILLed (still) we hear, from the old sod (potatoes) ~ Poteen. Now if I had a still and could brew Poteen believe me I would not be upright.
Yes Scorpiojo am keeping fine and upright. I have to go to the Hospital on Thursday for check ups.
