North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has a megalomaniac one-track mind who had been influenced by his father & grandfather, who were North Korean leaders he succeeded. Kim Jong-un is paranoid against USA, with the infantile, egoistic, poorly thought out belief/delusion that striking an US territory will bring glorious victory to North Korea. He lacked insight, by not taking consideration that the likelihood of USA shooting down the North Korean ICBM fired will result in radioactive fallout on North Korea and the surrounding area. North Korea will certainly be shooting herself in the foot.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-40871416 reported, “North Korea has said it is considering carrying out missile strikes on the US Pacific territory of Guam. The North's official news agency said on Tuesday the plan involved firing medium-to-long-range rockets at Guam, where US strategic bombers are based. The UN recently approved further economic sanctions on North Korea, which Pyongyang said were a ‘violent violation of our sovereignty’, warning the US would ‘pay a price".

Jim, //It bothers me though that Trump seems to have essentially jumped to the last desperate measure of a Nuclear (counter)strike almost as a first resort.// I would have thought it fairly obvious that Trump’s rhetoric isn’t designed for our ears, but rather those of North Korea. As he said yesterday he doesn’t have to tell us what he intends to do...

I think everyone, except North Koreans perhaps, would agree with that.... but I might be wrong. We shall see.
Just insert Donald Trump in place of KY-u.
You beat me to it ZM !

Donald Trump shooting down the North Korean ICBM fired in self-defence will free will prevent US Pacific territory of Guam becoming ground-zero for radioactive fallout. The resulting radioactive fallout will the shift from Guam onto North Korea and the surrounding areas. North Korea will certainly be shooting herself in the foot.
If he ain't careful with all the sabre rattling, the price he refers to might be the US getting embroiled in another Korean war. Could give their diplomats work to do, also.
Self defence?
Question Author
Zacs-Master: "Self defence?"

Unlike Kim Jong-in, Donald Trump is not mad enough to use US ICBMs as first strike, after all who (except Kim Jong-in) wants areas around South Korea, Japan, China, Philippines being contaminated with nuclear fall-out?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-39775854 reported, “The US military says its controversial Thaad missile defence system is now operational in South Korea. However, Mr Geng welcomed Mr Trump's suggestion of meeting Kim Jong-un, saying China had "always believed that dialogue and consultation... is the only realistic and viable way to achieve denuclearisation". A spokesman for the US forces based in South Korea said Thaad now had "the ability to defend the Republic of Korea”. But the system only has "initial intercept capability", a US defence official told AFP. It will be strengthened later this year as more parts of the system arrive”.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-39775854 continues, “What is the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense System (Thaad)?
:: Shoots down short and medium-range ballistic missiles in the terminal phase of their flight
:: Uses hit-to-kill technology - where kinetic energy destroys the incoming warhead
:: Has a range of 200km and can reach an altitude of 150km
:: US has previously deployed it in Guam and Hawaii as a measure against potential attacks from North Korea
What impact will S Korea's expanded missile defence system have?
1. The enemy launches a missile
2. The Thaad radar system detects the launch, which is relayed to command and control
3. Thaad command and control instructs the launch of an interceptor missile
4. The interceptor missile is fired at the enemy projectile
5. The enemy projectile is destroyed in the terminal phase of flight
The launcher trucks can hold up to eight interceptor missiles”.
great !

steps 1 to 8 are quite hard to perform in real time

In the Vietnam war they had hittiles ( small missiles which were quick enough to sort of get to the missiles) but they werent very good

The Patriot system was given to the Israelis during the battle of the cities and one of the Gulf Wars. Estimates of how good it was are various

Peter Pedant? "In the Vietnam war they had hittiles. The Patriot system was given to the Israelis during the battle of the cities and one of the Gulf Wars"

This is a more modern anti-missile missile Terminal High Altitude Area Defense System (Thaad) which can offer some kind of protection in self-defence, as least.
Your terrible English confused me 'the North Korean ICBM fired in self-defence'
Question Author
Zacs Master,

What is so confusing when I wrote, "Donald Trump shooting down the North Korean ICBM - fired in self-defence will prevent US Pacific territory of Guam becoming ground-zero for radioactive fallout."

I often wrote without checking carefully, hence some words are repeated or spelled wrongly. There is nothing wrong with my English. I do not any any difficulties whatsoever using it.
can't understand why this person has not been given an assassin's bullet yet ?
Your sentence inferred the NKs were firing in self defence. Confused me also
You have added a dash to your "quote". In the original it was ambiguous whether the missile was in self defence or the anti missile missile. A little punctuation, or rearrangent of the sentence would have helped.
Minty, they may have already tried and obviously failed.
I wondered about that myself yesterday.
Couldn't the Triad or some other such group inveigle their way in?
Would take a lot of time tho to get access to the nutter.
(Mr Kim that is, not Trumpy-boy)
And I am not advocating murder incase GCHQ are looking in.

Zac Master,
In my original post above I wrote, "He [Kim Jong-un] lacked insight, by not taking into consideration that the likelihood of USA shooting down the North Korean ICBM fired - will result in radioactive fallout on North Korea and the surrounding area".

The context of what I saying is clear: Kim Jong-un lacked insight, by not taking into consideration the likelihood of USA shooting down the [his] North Korean ICBM fired."
Those have had tried end up on the wrong end of an anti aircraft missile. That is why.

Of course any sane person thinks Mr Jong-un is a wrong un, apart from ZM of course but then he/she is probably just being antagonistic as usual.
would have thought US have been tracking him for some time ... send in a hit sqad... although some serious stuff can be done remotely
Disabling an ICBM will not necessarily result in radioactive fall-out.
The US cant just go killing high profile Heads of State when not in a state of war, even the Russian in their hey-day didnt do that!

An assassination has to come from within.
