I worked out it was an anagram but couldn't solve it since I didn't see it as two words.

I have many of the answers but can't work out how they fit in to the grid.Can someone give me a start e.g. first across , 10 letters, initial letter? Thank you (HATE these types of crosswords - yesterday's Guardian was the same - no numbers!)

It took me a while to make any progress after a few wrong guesses as to where the longer answers I had could go. Didn't help that I guessed wrong for the competition word - should have known it would be more obscure than the obvious.
