The Tories rarely elect the favourite: Cameron is about the only one I can think of in living memory - and in times of crisis they often get it very wrong. This is a dreadful time for them to be choosing a new leader. Dreadful time for us all really.
Interestingly tho Johnson is seen as not beyond the red line for many Remain MPs in the way people like Leadsom, Raab and McVey are. I can only imagine it’s because they see him as more unpredictable on that front. After all it’s not that long ago he was seen as a one nation sort of Tory and despite how he comes across now he was the man who claimed we should not necessarily leave the EU even if we voted to do so narrowly. And did those famous soul-searching opposing arguments for each side.
Or to put it more unkindly, he may be a devious careerist who’ll sell his soul in what ever direction furthers his career.
