I had thought of this, which would give the answer 'towngas'. However, the usual German word for 'Sunday' is 'Sonntag' (with two letter n's). I don' know if 'Sontag' is acceptable.

I hadn't seen Calibax' response when I posted, but (s)he is quite right. I have now consulted five German dictionaries, which concur. I should get out more...

I can't find it with one N either, even as a non-standatrd use.

The solution is Sontag & with the W added and anagrammed the solution to enter is town gas. I think that the spelling sontag is a setter error

If you google Sontag it appears several times as Sunday.

I thought this was simply ON in STAG with the W added but I'm not sure where Berlin fits in- I hadn't thought of the Sontag/Sonntag connection, although I'm not sure where work would fit in then

Yes, that was covered above, danny- so if that's the parsing (and we ignore the extra N) where does work during fit in- or is that just the anagram indicator

This seems hard work. Clearly we are at cross purposes, danny, as you keep repeating what I've said, The working = on, inside STAG, plus a W was my parsing above and was the way I parsed it last time I answered this clue. I wasn't sure where Berlin fitted in though.
It's you that gave the other solution of Son(n)tag + the W. I hadn't thought of that previously on the other thread until I saw this thread. But if it's the right parsing I'm asking where the 'working' fits in.

Okay I conclude you are parsing it both ways - SON(n)TAG +W and ON and W in STAG
