Pace. (Double defn.)

Looks very good although had to look up the other meaning. nearest I got was stoop as in bowing
Stoop looks good to me.
me too... stoop is a type of step.
Am sure they've used stoop before for stairs which made me think of it. Pace fits perfectly too (seen it in books - pace so and so) but maybe its not common enough word for alphapuzzle. Lets See what fits
yes it was a few weeks ago, one that i managed to get......
place?
mallyh did you mean place or pace?
Dont think I've ever been first to get one right on alphapuzzle so am pretty sure Benchico's is the right one
STOOP?
Stoop?
i meant place as its in crossword solver for deference
wait till satprof comes up with numbers....

19,5,12,7
Yay- I was right, I was wrong!
I finished the puzzle without getting the clue. The only answer with any link to the clue is PACE but I can't see where deference comes in.

It's definitely 'pace'. Well done to Buenchico, showing off your erudition.

Pace fits in a slot ending with a common letter that is also found in several word endings, which I took to be (& is) E. Everything else then works out quite easily.

@happygranny2 - As Buenchico shows with his link, there is a rarely used meaning of 'pace' meaning 'given due deference to' when disagreeing with someone. An example might be, after a Professor says that the Earth is 55% iron, "Pace Professor, but my research shows that it is at least 65% iron." Technically, it is a preposition and is often pronounced 'par-chay', but the pronunciation of latin words is subject to dispute.

I expect mouseymick will be along later with more info on the solution.
Pace .. 19,5,12,7 .. Q is 24 and Z is 22
