8 Noes, votes against. Holding large = put L inside. Noles, crowns for bard, Shakespeare.

Question Author

/Noles, crowns for bard, Shakespeare./

Can you explaing that please, NAC?

12 Meioses, means the same as Litotes (understatements). Anagram, funny,  of 'seem so', with 'i', newspaper inside (plugs).

Question Author

I have 12ac now. Thank you.

Tilly, nole is an old (Shakespearean/bard)word for the top of the head, crown...

Question Author

I didn't know that. (How come I didn't know that!)

Not bad answers, NAC. Thank you 😀

Question Author

An ass's nole I fixed on his head.

Tilly, I am pleased, I did get Meioses as plural form of Litotes, and Noles
verifiable in Chambers under Noll, Shakespeare and Spencer for top
of the head.

Tilly, glad I could help.

Matakari, glad for the added confirmation...

Question Author

All done now but one of my unclued answers is 'goose egg'.

Question Author

...how does that fit in the theme?

Tilly2, Chambers says... 'a zero score', so it fits in perfectly well!

Question Author

Thank you, again. Guess who didn't look in Chambers.

Thanks, Tilly2. You did crosswords for so long without Chambers, it's not become second nature - yet! - to check....

Yes, Tilly2, apart from the "zero score" in Chambers, Google gave me the list of all the Unclueds in "list of words that mean nothing".

Thanks for that, Matakari. I would only use Google as a very last resort, I enjoyed tracking down all the nothing words yesterday!

Question Author

I'm obviously not researching properly. Chambers and Google from now on.😄

Chambers is great, Tilly2, save Google for totally desperate times....

Tilly2, I think my favourite Tilly story is when you mentioned 'purloining' a few (Spectator) answers as you passed through the threads...

Question Author

😂 I'm not daft. If it isn't in my grey matter it must be somewhere else but that Chambers is so heavy, I can barely pick it up. AB is easier to 'lift'. He he, ha ha.
