Can't parse a couple. Also one not in Chambers.18a: monstrous pile in progress. I'll go to making it . Is it Pelion? The down light at 8d: Re such application of flavour could be sprinkling sugar nice. Is it saucing? Any ideas welcome

Yes to both. PELION (anag 'pile' + ON 'in progress') from Greek myth - ''to pile Pelion on Ossa'' mountain on mountain. SAUCING - anag of SUGAr NICe (minus 're').
