...are acceptable to the Israelis if they succeed in killing a middle rank Hamas leader?
sandyRoe The israelis have gone out of their way to avoid collateral damage still not enough for some its a war.
Naomi. The OP question is not answerable in simple terms. if "The Israelis" is meant to mean the Israeli government then the answer seems to be as many as it takes until Hamas is destroyed. Unfortunately, the killing of defenseless children and civilians will result in future hate-filled generations who will never forget what happened, and Hamas or a new movement will rise and perpetuate strife.
It's all very biblical - eye for eye, Battle of Jericho, God (any god you like) said we could take the land and empty it for our own use.
My perception is that the IDF have no conscience whatsoever about "collateral damage". I've said this before. It seems to me that Israel sees everyone in Gaza, Lebanon, Iran etc as either Hamas fighters, Hamas sympathisers or Hamas in waiting, the children. As such, everyone is a legitimate target. That's why they won't stop.
