Trying to update my RAM. I've got 2 slots with one 512 Dimm RAM in it. Trying to put 2 x 1GB cards in (one in each slot), but the PC (Advent 3214 with Athlon XP2600+)just keeps trying to re boot and comes up saying you've added hardware/software and its having to re boot again. A few times it has said that system32/drivers/nfts is corrupt. I've put the old 512 card back in and it works fine. I have since found that not all makes of RAM are compatible, but as I'm putting a matched pair in thought it would be OK. Original RAM is Samsung, new ones are Middle East Memory fom Ebuyer if that helps. Any ideas?

Is your motherboard built to handle 2 gb? If you are installing 2 gb and using 2 sticks to do it, they are no doubt both double sided sticks. With that said not all motherboards are built to handle this configuration. My mobo will handle 2 gb but not handle 2 double sided sticks at 400mhz. If I bring it down to 333 I will be able to put in 2 double sided but then I will have to put in a third stick to get the 2 gb. 1 wil be a double sided 1gb and the other 2 will be single sided 512's. Hop this makes sense.

Yes, I think can use double sided stick, as I used www.crucial.co.uk scanner which said I had 4 slots (though I've only got 2), so I assume this meant they are double sided.

He/she's not using them both at the same time, the original was taken out and replaced with a matched pair.
