Following on from Kags question 'Grammar does it matter?' I have often wondered why it is said 'He hanged himself' rather than 'He hung himself' Why is this?

It's because there are 2 different verbs; to hang (as in to hang oneself) and to hang (as in to hang a picture). They have different past participles, "hanged" for the first and "hung" for the second.

"What is this thing called, love?" Quotation from Spike Milligan. We expect these words to mean, "There is a thing we call LOVE. What is is?" However, in the construction given it means one person asking another person that they call by the pronoun "love", what is the name of the thing that they are indicating. Concentrate on the comma and say it out loud with the comma pause and an upward swing on the word "love".
