Did you hear the one about the 'cash strapped' council - namely Southhampton City Council who are to axed free swimming for children @ 160000 per year - but has appointed a new ' media consultant ' spin doctor
@  100000 per year ?

Well I suppose , you cant argue with the maths - can you ? - there is a saving there of 60000 per year

The chief executive , Brad Roynon states , the council
was '' not always telling its story well in the media ''

Hmmm - he has got a way with words , hasn't he ?

I saw this story in the Metro - but couldn't see it on their web pages - to post
Why should kids get free swimming lessons?

Why should we without kids have to stump up?

Let the parents pay. It's their responsibility.

(I'm having a dailymailish day today).

Where is your sense of Altruism here ?

( Wait's for smart answer ) :-)
<Playing devil's advocate>

Altruism is all good and well, but why should my council tax go to pay for someone else's kids to take part in an activity that should either be funded by their schools or their parents?

I have to pay for my gym membership, so why do I also have to pay for some strangers' kids to learn how to swim???

It's a stealth tax on those who don't have kids.
I'm sure there are loads of ways that local government spends tax payers money that doesnt benefit every tax payer.
Have some kids then sp1814. Oh no, you can't can you.
