I've been away for the weekend and have just returned to see that the Sunday Times was delivered instead of the Sunday Telegraph, which means that I am going to miss my weekly fix of the EV crossword. Does anybody have a link for it ? I would be most gratetful.
Thanks ulysses100, I did twig the numerical thing in the end! I agree about pigs, but like you I can't see what the name might be. Im going to send it in as it stands anyway.
First opportunity I've had to get back to this since yesterday - Got dragged out quizzing after "UC" and have had a busy day --- The joys of being retired!!
In case you are still puzzling on the ones you mentioned
28a Lent ( season ) is definition -- Parlez-vous Francais?
31a You need French version of Swiss capital.
32a Books = First part of Bible + Masculine personal pronoun. Last letter is unclued
34a River is definition - Think West Country
Those should give you 30d.
Managed too get the three word phrase plus numbers in a 15 minute burst over midday butties and now will attempt to finish it. ( 11a +14d still proving elusive )
Hello Novalis,
I had got those answers, was trying to hint at the 8,3,6 phrase. I am still however struggling with the numerical substitution of 6 answers. This is despitet Copelanders hints. Hope you mean 11d and14ac!
Je peut parlez francais, un petit peu, mais seulement pour le menu et les directions. C'est le meme pour Allemande, Italienne et Espanole! Spelling will be horrendous!!
Ciao
Numerical substitutions ( the same in each case ) are in the top half of the grid reading downwards where you should find the same three letters in three pairs with a column between each. The result is very appropriate to the theme. If still unsure - look at the "play it again" answer and read downwards from there.
