I've been away for the weekend and have just returned to see that the Sunday Times was delivered instead of the Sunday Telegraph, which means that I am going to miss my weekly fix of the EV crossword. Does anybody have a link for it ? I would be most gratetful.
Sorry Ulysses100, I only have paper copy. On the other hand I must admit to be struggling with 5d, 14ac and 16ac which seem to be thematic! Happy to e-mail you with PDF of grid if you would want that, but would need your e-addy!
Happy to erase all pencil filled answers, but have filled in some "thematic" bits in ink. To send you that copy might detract from your pleasure, how about we leave it till tomorrow and see if there are are other offers?!?
Didn't start it until earlier today. Have the quote but am struggling with 9 clues in total. 5d is not thematic Definition is first four words of the clue and you need an anagram of Zero + the abbreviation of the area of the country where Durham is to be found. Just going back to it now.
Hi again. Have tried it and it doesn't seem to work. Have e-mailed a further possibility, but Telegraph Crossword Society seem to be doing their best not to allow access.
Just had a bit of inspiration and am now short of five answers all of which are ( I think ) thematic. 14, 15 16 across and 1 and 11 down. Just going back to those now.
Hello Novalis
Thanks for that, can you help Ulysees or shall I do that by erasing and scanning tomorrow? Which of the 9 clues can I help you with by means of hints!
Do you have the "missing letter" poetic tribute or the grid entries (8,3,6) that need to be hi-lighted (spelling)? I do have both.
Asta manana, (sorry can't do the squiggly bit over the first N!)
ps Am certainly struggling on the numerical substitution in the 6 words.
Hi Doc HH!
Sorry can't help Ulysses - Scanner not working! Have the poetic tribute but not the 8,3,6 and am about to play with remaining 5 clues ( all thematic? ) 14, 15 16 acros and 1 and 11 down before "University Challenge". Any broad hints would be appreciated.
Novalis, have you answered 28a, and 31a, then 32a and 34a, plus 30d!
I'd appreciate help with the thematic clues you are goingto play with, my brain is in meltdown!!
With judicious use of Typex and eraser will send grd to Ulysses tomorrow, enjoy TV prog, I don't have a TV/.
Thank you BigDave44, not long before I am absent for a while!!
Don't understand why you aren't an EV fan though, just a natural progression from Telegraph.
14a is not thematic but 15 and 16a are. 1d is also thematic, as are 7d,33d and 36d and 17a and 24a. The word to number substitution will become obvious.
I'm away from home but I do have a copy of the crossword, which I've completed all but for 1 dn - I think I know what it is but I can't be certain. Any hints, please?
As for the 'numerical substitution, Im sorry copelander, but it hasn't yet become obvious to me!
Hi Spaghetti.
I can only think that 1d is pigs (I cannot get another man's name from the clue -- yet).
As to the six words, you will see that there are six words to be found in the grid which, when substituted, will read out a day and a month, for the tribute.
