I also had a devil of a time coming up with the 22 - I thought it would be the death of me. (I was Not Helped by taking Novalis' comment that it was "relatively plain sailing" literally and looking for 22 nautical things - that'll teach me.) Find the strength to persevere and soon the sun will be shining again.

Sorry dr b -- It wasn't meant to mislead. I just didn't want to give any hints in my original post.
To Devadolly and Physicsgirl -- dr b's final sentence gives you one of the thematic answers and, Physicsgirl, you are on the right track. Try Googling what I think you suspect the theme to be.
DocHH, you've got me puzzled. In my Chambers ( 2003 ) both the singular and plural forms of 17a are given.
I'm expecting visitors tomorrow --- they usually arrive bearing bounty ( red and liquid ) from France.
PG and DD,
Should also have added that dr. b very cleverly worked further thematic answers into his posting.
N - no problem, it just made the chase all the more..... madcap, that's the word.

DocHH - Starting you all off was a bit of an accident! Someone wrote to me and told me that the SS had been added to the online version this week, and I was going to add them to the blog if they weren't in the paper.

Hosting the N&C is no problem, I've directed all emails from AnswerBank straight into the Junk Mail folder!!

I have put a link to this thread on the blog. If you like the idea, I'll update it every week so that you can all find the latest thread easily.
I'm resigning - can't cope - am swimming in wedding cake calculations( I am sure that there must be a mathematical equation along the lines of SxRxCsquared + as,b+e+fx ?"!), the only thing I can see remotely relevent is to get my Major Acana out of its box. I'm staying in the naughty corner with another bottle of NZ SB and the hope that Physicsgirl has got some more snacks in the oven!

Regards
Hi Devadolly!

Get it out of its box and take it from there. You've cracked it!!!
Have obviously crossed with BD on this thread - don't think anyone 'hosts' anything Dave but I think the difficulty in tracking your original post was the lower case ev - I think we usually use upper case. It's all a bit come day go day (well I hope it is!) along the lines of first up (or who's (usually me) panicing first) Or DocHH when he has spent 3 minutes on it and is showing off!!!! I didn't drink NB either Doc, but I knew a lot of people who did! You must be of my era as you don't seem to know about the purple nasties - explained to me by a much younger friend who attended the 'Establishment' in the 80's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In true Victor Meldrew style....... I doooon't belieeeve it! My list of 22 must be right, then. Will have to make it work somehow.

Meanwhile, DD - the gruyere and pinch of mustard really compliment each other in the cheese straws, don't you think? Perhaps some olives and feta next?
Hi PG!

You should be able to fit in 57 and 65 straightaway. Dependent on which list you have look out for the alternatives to two of them.
Do you want me to bring you and DD some liquid refreshment to wash down all your nibbles?
Novalis, the plural of 17a, only appears under the singular in my copy. And I agree drb worked in some good hints for the 21/22!
I trust the invaders bring sufficient bounty that they prevent illegal immigrants hiding in the boot!! If they do it really helps the Immigration Authorities!
Dave, I think we're OK, it's just that I was preoccupied this weekend. We sort of have a "post about 16.00" arrangement, but I'll happily agree with whatever the other EV N&C Wine Clubbers would prefer. many of them hop about on AnswerBank as helpers anyway.
The more the merrier in the corner, just me and my bruised ego plus DD. We have tempted you in with the nibbles, I know. Please bring nice drink to drown sorrows. Have started filling in list where possible ... hic... hic

Just like to point out that I posted EV and AB changed it to ev - I think that happens if all of your subject is in capitals.
That's correct Dave, it is necessary to use the full title of EV in upper and lower case as in the Paper, it's the same for answering questions from others.
Did you try this weeks EV?
Devadolly, 68-75, and you?
Question Author
I had intended to try it, but blogging duties and what at times seemed like an endless procession of visitors has left me with very little time. Maybe tomorrow (Billy Fury, 1959)
Have been out all day so just popping in to say have enjoyed reading all the chat even if I didn't take part in it.!
DD - by painful process of elimination and checking of chambers, have finally found 17a. Can supply you with it if you want, but suspect that if I've found it, you will have by now. Thought I'd do smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with buck fizz for breakfast in the corner....
Ok, OK, I've managed it - the EV not the cake formulae but haven't filled it in yet. Did get that fiendish 17a by dint of ferreting through the BRB under each letter in turn, never heard of it!
Aaah, that was it Physicsgirl, the mustard, a definate yes to the olives but could we have Somerset Brie instead, I can't get on with any form of goats cheese. Do you think we are being invaded here, have we got an altogether more comvivial solving corner (for dunces) here? Morecambe Bay shrimps and home-made bread too next week perhaps?
Novalis, we do seem to be getting low on liquid refreshment....................................some white too????????
Doc a 'thick sandwich' 67-69 and 74-76, supposed to be to 77 but got sick of not being in the real world so settled for an M instead of a P.
Oh do join us Christina - really tasty snacks.
sounds delicious - count me in!
"Am standing here with hands on hips, scowling"
Come out of that corner immediately all of you! Bring all those food goodies and eat at the table properly with the rest of us. We have sufficient liquids to share! Just remember Novalis had visitors arriving today bringing bounty as well. No need to slink, just come and join the party!
Have declined the re-union do for later this year at the Establishment!
Ciao
