Hello EV N&Cing Wine Clubbers,
That was somewhat more challenging. A few words I'd never heard of didn't help! After I'd spotted a possibility in the perimeter it all fell into place.
Pleased to see that the SS had been put upside down, perhaps a mirror image would be better.

Actually, Novalis, with the exclusion of an "AITCH" it could also be the preferred sound of a tintinnulabulist!!
Hopefully, Devadolly will reconnect soon and emerge from the refurbished, but now spartan cell, in which she thought she was comfortable, but is no longer, sack-cloth and ashes strewn on the way out too! It also seems from other posts she may be lonely if she decides to stay there!!
BTW I am quite happy to be classed as eccentric!

Sorry Physicsgirl to have seemed to have ignored you, but we overlapped. How is minipg, or is she now known as waterbabe?
We have to make sure we keep all of the EVers out of a now austere corner!!
hello DocHH! Mini PG very well thanks. I'm having to keep her away from crosswords as I believe the black and white pattern looks too appetising to resist. She is also doing her best to terrorise the cats.
Almost done with this one, perimeter complete and 2/3 of grid full, but had no time today as yet. Cold, blustery and very un May-like here in Yorkshire but will still go for an afternoon constitutional.

Where is Devadolly?
Hi Physicsgirl!

The weather this side of the Pennines ( I won't get into any debate about which side is "better" ) is like yours.
Glad you are cracking on with it. Will be "lurking" should you need any hints.
Junior PG is being eduacted at a young age to look at crosswords...no harm in that.
Echo your question....Where is Devadolly?

Hello Physicsgirl and Novalis, I rather fear Devadolly has actually committed the unforegiveable, either throwing EV into the bin or slashing wrists, resulting in a sad loss to us all.
The weather here on the South Coast, not too far east of where Christiana is visiting her "favourite" Aunt has been sunny but breezy today.
Evening EVers
Has anyone else received an email from Answerbank stating that you have not been using the site for some time? I admit that my last post must have been over 24 hours ago LOL. I do wonder how they operate at times - the wonders of modern technology.
Devadolly - please put our minds at rest - we are all worried about you. Physicsgirl - it's never to young to start them on crosswords and the weather here in Cheshire is awful - wet and cold.
Ah well, enough ranting. Back to my marking :-(
Ringer, I too, have just had a similar message from AB. Admittedly I haven't been on here for a couple of days or more, so maybe it was justified. Guests have all left, beds changed and the last bit of ironing ready to be put away. Phew, what fun! I'm off to the bright lights of London tomorrow, firstly for a bit of learning, but then some retail therapy, methinks. I'll be back home on Sunday so EV shouldn't suffer, tho' Speccie may have to wait for longer than usual.
Hi Copelander!
Enjoy your trip to the Big Smoke.

Can the rest of us make up a search party please to see if we can find Devadolly.
Question Author
That strange message arrived here too, and not for the first time. I just ignored it!
Copelander, if you are going to be in London for a few days, I would recommend the Restaurant Maggie Jones at 6 Old Court Place, just off of Kensington Church Street, more economically priced at lunch time, but very good, it is Google-able. Nearest Tube station Kensington High Street. The stilton mousse is to die for, and the grilled liver is superb! The theory is that is named after Princess Margaret, and her surname when she was married to her first husband, and that she ate there too. Last time I was there I think I had a preprandial in an appropriately named pub in Kensington Church Street , turn right out of Kensington High St Station, then left at the traffic lights. You will need to avert eyes as you pass M&S on the way to the traffic lights.
What ever you do, enjoy!! I think Oxford Street standard of shops has declined badly, despite that Herself still likes the buzz of the City, not for me though.
Shame Devadolly has not reappeared.

Hello Novalis
Devadolly's silence is worrying, I am most concerned! Have found a decent torch, and am ready to join the search party. Spotted you helping in Crosswords and Q&P earlier today.
Thanks DocHH for the dining tip....details noted down and I shall google it later. Son has suggested we go to a Pan-Asian place off Regent St. on Fri night. I will report back!!. I'll look out for Devadolly in London......harasssed, ginger Tom under one arm and a shredded EV in other hand...shouldn't be too hard to spot.
No EVing (or N-ing or C-ing) for me next week as I will be off to Boston to help my oldest get her dorm room packed up and sent off to storage, sent home, or shipped to NYC where she'll be spending the summer. Kids are so complicated these days. I strongly suspect you'll be able to carry on in my absence.

She hopes to spend Spring 2010 studying in London, so I may need lots of advice in 9 months or so.
Good luck, Dr b, What's she studying?
Question Author
Hello dr b,
I'm not based in London, but am sure some of your EV N and Cing ethereal friends can suggest useful things! I suspect they have offspring who are quite savvy in the way of our Capital! Just ask, is the best I can offer! I also suspect the Uni will be quite helpful, mine was when I did the exchange to Georgia Tech many years ago.

We will try and not miss you, will you please have a search for Devadolly locally, and also in Boston. Copelander has given excellent hints on how to recognise her!

I had problems finding parking in Boston, especially in China Town, kept on going into the airport and having to keep paying the toll each time!
She's studying communications (PR or advertising) with a minor in business. Her NYC summer internship is with a PR firm so she's quite excited. Dad is a bit nervous about the whole thing, of course.

DocHH, I live in mortal fear of missing an exit in Boston because I would never ever find my way back. After several years of trips out there I can more or less find my way from the airport to her school, but that's about it. Getting back to the airport is always an adventure. Thank goodness for online maps.

dr b
I eventually gave up trying to find a parking space in China Town and spent an hour or more at a bar in the airport. I then learnt what all the posters meant, which were saying "Squish the Fish"
She'll be fine, if I can help nearer the time I'm happy to do that, just ask.
Squish the Fish? Patriots v Dolphins in the 1985 AFC Championship? As a native Chicagoan I remember this fondly because my Bears proceeded to demolish the Patriots in the Super Bowl. (note to other NCers - I realize this may be gibberish but now you know how I feel when I stumble across a discussion of soccer, er, football, er, your guys' football.....)
I've only flown across the pond once - many years ago, but remember falling in love with baseball - not sure whether it was the sport or the refreshments that were served at each game. (malted milk ice cream?) Come on the Red Sox!!!!
As my names suggests I rang in Boston and Chicago as well as Phil and Washington
Dr b, I can only echo DocHH's comments. If nearer the time, I as one of this bunch of eccentrics, can help in any way, just post on here. I along with ( obviously ) my husband and a few friends have rented thru' The Landmark Trust a house that once belonged to Rudyard Kipling in Vermont in the "fall", so we'll probably be negotiating Boston sometime in October, I'll bear all your comments in mind.
