Last two. 1d Seat used by person of authority (4) S - F - Looks like SAFE, but could be SOFA?

15a Not much of a turn? It gets an award at Edinburgh, maybe. (6) - E - R - E Looks like DEGREE, but a bit thin?

Thanks for help.

1d sofa with the s from seat and the ofa from of authority
15a degree as one degree out of 360 is not much of a turn
I agree these are "thin" but nothing else works in the case of 15a
Is S now an accepted abbreviation of seat?

I take it that you disagree with the choice of sofa. You prefer safe? Why?
My reading of the definition of seat in Chambers is seat is "a post of authority." Thus the clue itself is tautologic.
Hi aeronut

I don't think much of the clue, and on another post I suggested (hesitantly) that a 'safe' seat could be obtained by a person of authority!

I queried the 'S' as you seemed to indicate that the answer was S (from seat) +OFA, and I had not heared of S being indicated from seat.

Inasmuch as you are a person of authority having had a seat on this board much longer than I, I'm inclined to accept your choice of safe.
Given the ST's history of sloppy editing, I'm inclined to think the clue is supposed to read "personS of authority" making SOFA the answer. I just can't see SEAT.
