novalis: No plans to go to the thematic hometown this year; I've been several times and it's best experienced without crowds. To me the best part is a museum that has an extensive collection of newspapers with articles contributed by (spoiler!) Mark Twain. I could happily spend the day just reading those. Otherwise the "Twainy" part of Hannibal is a very small area in a *very* small town.

I don't know if US weather makes news in the UK, but you may have read about lots of tornadoes in the US (mostly in Mississippi, where there were a dozen or so deaths). We had a tornado touch down about 3 miles from us - far enough away, but too close for comfort! Hope to see the sun shine by Wednesday.
DD: I can email you a pdf of the Listener if you like; send an email to bbetker (at) yahoo.com and I can reply.
Hi Dr B!

Thanks for that information. There are pictures and a report in this morning's Telegraph of the devastation in Mississippi.
Devadolly,

Have a look at,

Also have a look at some of the comments on that thread, very helpful.

The tick box mentioned should be next to the sentence "your avatar is inactive". If it isn't, click on the compatible box, Then go to Gravatar, via the link shown near the tick box. Set up your account with Gravatar (it's free), and it will give you options which include "selecting an avatar (ie Pic of Ginger Mog) from somewhere on your computer". Find pic, click on it to select it, click on G to rate the pic as available to be seen by anyone, Basically the Gravatar instructions are quite straightforward.I look forward to seeing him!
Devadolly,
This is probably more comprehensive than my explanaton,

Good grief!! It worked!! Thank you for that DocHH, am now feeling quite geeky (or should that be geekie for a girl) but exhausted - might find a better one of the GM another time, the one used has turned out a little dark.
Well done Devadolly, it looks as if he is peering out of a tree!
He is Doc! Himself is clipping a large bush we have in the yard & GM is helping (sic)
Hi everyone, hope I haven't missed the party. Congratulations Copelander. Started late as usual, but have had a markedly similar experience to everyone else, so hope that qualifies me for CCC. Have also had next door's satellite dish go through our roof, including part of the concrete plinth, so have been pretty busy. All fixed now, but not before torrential rain poured through the ceiling. So redecorating to do before our house move, otherwise we will never sell it, or rent it out for the summer. We now have a date for furniture collection - June 16th - but not sure when it will arrive in England yet. Sometime before end of June, we expect.
......and bringing up the rear as ever, hello to all! Been very busy with trips to the seaside, christening of niece etc., but have my grid half full so far and progressing nicley (famous last words?!). Our horse won on Sunday! We weren't in attendance due to the christening, the usual jockey couldn't ride, and the trainer had to get someone else to take him ... typical. I watched longingly as my husband poured a celebratory glass or two of 1994 rioja that has been awaiting such an occasion for 2 years. Anyway, back to that grid - sun cream anyone?
What a disaster Christiana, everyone's greatest fear, something coming through the roof, hopefully all covered by insurances, but un-needed angst in the lead up to a house move, which even over a short distance can be stressful. Saved a space for you in Completers Corner, and made sure there is sufficient food and drink for you and any other late entries!
Physicsgirl, congratulations on the horse win, a double celebration! Hurry up and finish this week's EV, soon be clearing up in Completers Corner ready for the caterers to come in to prepare for EV913! Surprised you haven't Avatared yet, see top of this AB Window!
Hi Christiana!

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Hope all matters are now in hand in that direction.

Congratulations Physicsgirl. Had I backed your horse it would still be running. "Winner" isn't in my dictionary! As far as this puzzle is concerned there are enough hints and pointers in the previous posts to direct you to CCC. Just mark my words.
Indeed. Aren't you Brits big on twainspotting?

My plan re avatars is to wait a long time, at which point I will have a unique red and orange jellybaby avatar.
Oh Christina, how awful, is it fairly easily sorted? Do hope so, welcome to Clever Clogsis anyway, working under such strain deserves sustinence and commiserations whatever! Well done to your nag Physicsgirl, yopu must let us know where they are running so we can have a flutter, Himself studies the form and sometimes scores (nothing at Cheltenham and second in the National) I go for names, pricky ears (if I am at the Meet) colours and a pin and do quite well - profit at C and 1st, 3rd & 4th in the N.
Keep telling all you chaps - it's Clever Clogsis Corner (thank you novalis for the correct use of initials) though I imagine the temporary sign will be off the door on Sunday to reveal the more permanent label DC!
Mark my words Dr B, you need to Avatar or you will ever be betrayed as a New "B£
Really Dr.B, what a ghastly pun. Roof has been mended, Devadolly. Waiting to hear from insurance re. claim, but there is an excess, of course. Hoping next door neighbours might contribute - after all it was their dish.
Christiana, sorry to hear about your misfortune. Definately worth asking the neighbours, particularly if you feel that they may not have maintained/examined whatever was holding the dish up properly. There is a fair bit of info on the internet on trees falling into neighbours property and the liability allocation/negligence issues, which should be a similar to satellite dishes! Good luck
The first two solutions from this morning's Telegraph Quick Crossword are
marked wane. There's no escaping him it seems.
^I thought I was the ghastly pun king
But I just handed my calembour crown to him
Dr b, calembour had me dashing for the BRB! Please stop PUNishing us!
