I think we expect more of a challenge, but maybe this is a gentle introduction to EV for new solvers.

Can someone please help me over the finishing line?

I have the spokesman and his monetary policy which results in either 28 -diagonal or 21a.
As 21a in its present form clashes with 6d do I make 6d a non word, and where does 21a lead me to a 'discovery'?

Am I just being a 'batty brunette' ?

6 down, as also the diagonal from 28, becomes a non-word once the adjustment is made.
The row above 21 across contains what needs highlighting. Its last letter is the first of the discovery.
