I think we expect more of a challenge, but maybe this is a gentle introduction to EV for new solvers.

Afternoon all; the h-g is now stuck into the 20-20 cricket so has dictated the following.... a pleasant, straightforward puzzle which kept us occupied during the Grand Prix. Unusually for us we found the words in the grid fairly quickly (must have been the Hamilton effect) and it all gelled nicely. Would agree with the non-words comment. Just opened a bottle of cab sauv, Il Pollilo from Chile, which comes highly recommended (Wine Society).

Dr b, I'm blaming the confusion on Devadolly, she keeps changing the name on the door! No wonder we are all bobbing about all over the place!

'Scuse me! Ages ago it was agreed that the first one up started the thread in the Xword bit of AB/Q & P and that we all checked with the site under EV ??? and if there was nothing there we jolly well started it.
As for the DC/CCC, the DC is for the convenience of those of us feeling particularly cerebrally (brick not handy) challenged who need comfort and joint commiserations because we have taken longer than 30 seconds to finish it. It becomes CCC when it is obviously easy as I have finished in in double quick time so we are probably all going to be clever clogsis!
Such abuse when all I have done is to check if there is any interesting chatter about. Feel quite intimidated as you have all finished it before the day is aired and I haven't even opened it at the appropriate page, almost feel I daren't now..................beasts!

it is one thing to have a DC and a CCC, I still prefer CC (Completers Corner, which should be more luxuriously furnished and with far more exotic food than DC) but if you keep changing the signs on the doors, it's no wonder dr b was in the wrong room! We did agree many moons ago that first up started the thread in where you said, but we've picked up a few more N&Cing Wine Clubbers since then who were not party to that agreement! We've also lost a few! Such is life. I'm on my normal Tempranillo!

Hi All
Just reporting in. Haven't even opened today's paper, as I've been catching up with the mound of ironing that has developed. Haven't imbibed today either - I've suffered two or three times from what has now been suggested as migraines and it appears (from indulgence last Sunday) that red wine is a trigger - and it was a particular favourite. Any ideas for what could replace it (we might have to install a fridge in DC to chill a white)

Ringer, sorry to hear you are suffering. I have had migranes all my life and they are a nuisance - after about 25 years I narrowed it down to caffeine and citrus, if I avoid these then the number I get falls dramatically. Giving up red would be tough, worth experimenting with whether different types are better/worse, I would hazard a guess that a very oaky/tannic red will cause problems. The only other tip I have it to take pills as soon as you feel a migraine starting and don't wait until you are sure.

Sorry Doc, if you wanjt a dedicated CC you will have to find another room, DC was started as a retreat and only reverts to the temporary CCC when enough of our usual DC inmates have had brainstorms. The DC/CCC is always in the previously decided thread and as to superior refreshments, I very much doubt it!
As to that ringer, the fridge in DC is always well stocked with superior white wine as I suffer from the same intolerence as you, also available are a selection of other drinks and nibbles. From your post about ironing, I would suggest that you take a break and pop into DC to try the recently installed foot-spa - fresh coffee in the blue jar.
So, for all the newer N & C friends, the original arrangement for all meeting on site (so to speak) was as stated in my previous post - first up etc.
No, I still haven't had a chance to even look at the EV so will doubtless be in remaining in DC as I just don't know when I am going to get a chance......................

Hello all, still short on time, but this one doesn't look as if it will need it. Guessed 11 before I'd started and now after an hour or so got most of the grid filled in, so hopeful of tweaking it and arriving at a result and a discovery. Booked my flight to England for 23rd June, so now committed to having everything done and dusted here by then. Just discovered how much it will cost to take the cat with us on the airline, and am off to try to recover my equilibrium with a nice Alentejo red.

Well now! The grid was non-DCish and the first part of the preamble leapt out and bashed me over the head, but I have to confess that (on first look) the second part requiring the high-lighting of adjustments, results and discovery are leaving me decidedly chilly. Time is very limited this week (sorting out of lamb orders etc,etc) so a couple of heavy hints would be welcomed.
Thinking of you Christina - what type of Mog have you?

To continue the musical theme Novalis started, you are looking for a Ken Dodd song after you have adjusted 9 lights in the grid in accordance with 11d's expectation! Then you need to be thinking along the lines of the coin that 11d had in mind, either favourably or unfavourably! I also hinted heavily in response to a post by AndrewG-S.
BTW, A.W.T, Gordon, Heston and Delia have agreed to cater for CC!

Devadolly, my mog is just that, a mog. No pedigree or anything, but very precious to us. He is a black cat called Marley, and was one of five feral kittens we took in and reared. Unfortunately he was born with cat aids, so requires regular treatment from the vet, but has his pet passport, so there will be no problem bringing him to England apart from the expense. We rehomed two of his brothers, two went missing (cats here are in great danger of poisoning so we fear the worst) and Marley himself was missing for ten weeks between Christmas and Easter one year, so probably trapped in one of the many second homes around. He turned up on the point of death, skeletally thin and dragging his back legs. After all that we couldn't possibly leave him behind.

Thank you for the hints, the 9 letter leapt out at me as I was nodding over the Ginger Mog late last night but have not gone further.
I'm definately staying in DC, snail porridge, and Dear Delia is the reason I have to spend most Saturdays in the summer tasting leaden Victoria sponges because she instructs one to 'line the tin'. As to GR don't you think he is a bit passe now? No thank you to all of them, will survive on the home made fare.
Your Mog sounds lovely Christina, GM is just a Mog too, his sister was a pretty grey & white tabby, sharp as a button but as ever, knew it all and found sparrow chasing across the road too much to resist.
