I am not aware of anyone who was able to get a hair dryer to work in their tent. But a pad & sleeping bag is all one really needs after a day of hiking!

Doc HH, I read this description of your favourite tipple today and felt it was such a rich (and only a little over the top!) description of something so simple that I should pass it on to you. Making me thirsty already.

I am internally grateful to you that I now fully understand why I like Tempranillo! I'd have been hard pushed to describe it like that, just sort of well rounded and fruity! We'll ignore it's reasonably priced too!
I hope you're not contemplating any excursion to the Lake District with your sons, on an orienteering basis, (and "loitering with intent) like dr b seems to have done on his holiday! Especially with inclement weather looming.
Herself would not be greatly impressed if I suggested a hiking/camping holiday! I'd probably an ex-DocHH. Actually, I'd personnally ask to be committed to the local asylum if I even suggested it!
We are currently planning an escape to the sun for sometime around late November!

We are actually off to the Isle of Wight rather than the lakes. We did camp in the lakes last year but it poured with rain and my wife was not impressed!

Just signing in to say 'hi' and agree with comments on difficulty level etc. Managed to fit it in nicely between continuing bouts of cooking and freezing the fruit. Yesterday the one peach fell from the tree and is waiting to be eaten. No vast harvest there, but may be able to improve its performance next year, perhaps with the aid of the hair dryer you mentioned, Doc H H

We enjoyed this too as an alternative to that Other One.... no internet connection in the cottage we are staying in (wilds of Scotland :)) so I am catching up with mail in a Tesco carpark whilst the H-g does his bit inside! See you all next week.

Our local Asda has an offer on Tempranillo at the moment - 3 bottles for £12. I don't know if it will be the same where you are. I managed to get 3 bottles of a very palatable S. African red this morning for the same price. It normally retails at £7.98 a bottle.

Asda is a bit of a trek away, but Sainsburys, which is a lot closer, but still out of town and hence free car-parking has some offers on red wines, that normally are £7.99 a bottle, at 2 bottles for £8.00, then if you buy 6 bottles (doesn't matter which combination), there is an extra 5% discount! By my reckoning this brings a £7.99 bottle down to £3.80! At that price it seems rude not buy them! The Tempranillo I buy for general slurping, while Herself is in the Metropolis during the week is the Sainsbury's Don Simon at £3.15 a bottle. Having said that she is not averse to a glass or two of it!

Belated Hello to All. Only managed to get to the EV last night and was amazed,.......Me! DD! Main occupant of DC managed to get to the point and almost finish it before Ginger Mog sent me to sleep on the sofa, have no doubt will finish it in good order tonight.
Fabulous photos drb but, a tent? Oh dear no, has to be comfy beds and a butler for me, I spend far too much time in the great outside come rain or shine, and FAR too much time getting meals so hols are all about not lifting a finger - 6* or not at all!
How are you getting on with the fruit Christina? Slowly going mad? Have just had an order for 10 litres of JG apple juice, then I start on the Discovery. Have signs out for beans and apples and the damsons won't be long, oh, and the sloes are showing bloom so they will be next. Trouble is, I just cannot bear waste, not allowed in this house!
Supposed to be going to the races today, but, it's sunny (for only the second time this year) and Himself rushed off to mow the last 30 acres for haylage and will be spending all today playing with large whirly tonka toys, so that's that! Good thing is, it is a very good crop, so no shortage of feed on this farm.
PS You are all horrible to keep reminding me that we are due for a MrO, you know that puts me in a severe state of fear and trembling......rotters!

Hi DD, good to hear the crop is good this year. We are having plenty of rain at last so everything has turned green again. Managed to use all those tomatoes in an excellent ratatouille last night. Perhaps you can make peace with MrO by sending some chutney?

That's an idea AndrewG-S! Not chutney though, never make that as it seems to azttract every wasp within a 20 mile radius! Sloe Gin perhaps? All I ask is that you are all kind to me and hint heavily (very, very, very heavily) when it is 'He who must not be named' and prevent a 19th nervous breakdown.

Devadolly, forgive me, but I thought we have always given you overweight/obese hints when "he who must not be named" is the compiler! As for the number of the nervous breakdowns, Sir Mick Jagger might have an opinion on that!

Hi again Devadolly. I have number two son here at the moment, so have slowed on fruit cooking. But the fruit is still coming thick and fast. Nothing like your quantities I should imagine, but like you can't bear waste. Am currently doing plum and other crumbles, plus apple and blackberry variations as a change from straight apple. Our big cooker is slowing down, but still plenty to come from the rosy red eating apple tree (it has pink streaked fruit and gives a lovely red juice) and the other two cooking apple trees have barely started. I've potted on some strawberry runners, and am about to tackle pruning the raspberry bushes. The blackcurrants are almost finished, but still perhaps a punnet or two left. And the pears are waiting in the wings. Have just ordered a blueberry bush - must be mad. Well you did ask!
