Hi Ardboe, you've done well to solve most of the clues without being able to enter them. Think of it as a swimmer in a 100m event turning at the halfway mark and retracing his path. The halfway mark is the bar at the end of the clue in the grid. So If there's a six letter space in the grid, and the answer has nine letters (call it 123456789), then you will pencil in 123456, and then hit the wall, turn, and the 7 will replace the 6, the 8 will replace the 5, and the 9 will replace the 4. So the grid entry will be 123987.
If it's an eight letter answer (12345678) in a four letter space, you will pencil in 1234 and then turn. The 5 will replace the 4, the 6 will replace the 3, the 7 will replace the 2 and the 8 will replace the 1. So the grid entry will be be 8765 (as in TAHC for whinchat). If you try that on the KRUGER patterns in the preamble they should make sense. I hope that's not chinese. Cheers, Turnerjmw
